What You Need To Become Certified

The Duties of a Nurse Aide

After obtaining your certification, a medical facility will offer you employment. In these facilities you will have to carry out the following duties as a CNA:


  • Help lift patients in and out of wheelchairs, beds, exam tables and other places.
  • Serve patients their meals and assist them with eating them if necessary.
  • Clean and sanitize each patient’s area.
  • Provide bedpans which must be cleaned when required.
  • Assist patients with bathing and getting them dressed.
  • Act as a liaison between the patients and the nurses and doctors.
  • Take the vital signs of a patient.
  • Answer a patient’s calls.
  • Make sure the beds are changed and clean.
  • Restock rooms with supplies when necessary.
  • For patients who are bedridden, or cannot move, turn or reposition them when needed.
  • Gather information about the conditions of each patient from professional nurses, doctors and caregivers.
